MKD Kitchen and Bath (“MKD”), a family-owned and operated leader in kitchen and bath remodeling since 1950, proudly celebrates its 75th anniversary — marking more than seven decades of craftsmanship, innovation, and trusted partnerships across the Midwest.
Founded by W.S. Townsend in 1950, MKD began as a small, family-run business built on hard work, integrity, and a commitment to quality. Today, MKD has evolved into one of the Midwest’s premier kitchen and bath companies, serving homeowners, contractors, and national retailers with comprehensive remodeling and countertop fabrication solutions.
“Seventy-five years is more than a milestone; it’s a reflection of our people, our customers, and our partners who have trusted MKD to deliver quality and integrity for generations,” said JW Townsend, Owner & CEO of MKD Kitchen and Bath. “Our foundation is strong, and our future is brighter than ever."

Trusted Partner to Major Retailers and B2B Clients
In addition to its thriving residential business, MKD has built one of the region’s most respected B2B divisions, fabricating and installing custom countertops for retailers, contractors, multi-family housing developers, and commercial clients.
For more than 25 years, MKD has been trusted by some of the largest retailers in the home improvement industry, including partnerships with three of the nation’s top retail brands. The company’s state-of-the-art fabrication facilities, featuring millions of dollars in advanced equipment and hundreds of thousands of square feet of production space, allow MKD to deliver precision, speed, and quality at scale.
MKD’s reach extends far beyond Michigan, with fabrication and installation projects completed across North America, including major commercial and luxury developments. From the Superdome football stadium renovation in Louisiana, completed just before the Super Bowl, to high-end residential work on Mackinac Island, Michigan, and large-scale projects spanning multiple states, MKD continues to deliver exceptional craftsmanship and reliability on every job.
“Our retail and trade partnerships are built on trust, reliability, and unmatched craftsmanship,” said Jack W. Townsend, Vice President at MKD. “We’re proud to be the go-to fabricator and installer for some of the biggest names in the industry.”
Design Centers and In-Home Services: Personalized Design, Made Simple
MKD continues to expand its direct-to-consumer offerings through its network of design centers and in-home design consultation services. The company operates two state-of-the-art design centers that serve as creative hubs for homeowners, builders, and design professionals to explore cabinetry, countertops, appliances, hardware, flooring, and plumbing fixtures. These showrooms provide a hands-on environment where clients can work directly with MKD’s expert design team to plan and visualize their dream spaces.
Complementing its in-showroom experience, MKD launched its Cabinet Refacing Division in 2022, offering personalized in-home design consultations throughout its three-state service area. This expansion allows homeowners across Michigan, Northern Ohio, and Northern Indiana to experience MKD’s professional design expertise from the comfort of their own homes, bringing the showroom experience directly to them.
“Our design centers and in-home consultations reflect how we do business,” said Mike Johnson, Director of Operations at MKD. “They’re designed to meet homeowners and professionals where they are, offering inspiration, collaboration, and a customer experience that truly brings ideas to life.”
75 Years Strong and Still Growing
As MKD celebrates 75 years in business, the company remains firmly rooted in the values that built its success: integrity, craftsmanship, and customer care, while looking ahead to new opportunities for growth and innovation. From a one-man operation in Marshall, Michigan, to one of the Midwest’s largest kitchen and bath remodeling and fabrication companies, MKD’s journey has been defined by family leadership, hard work, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
Today, MKD continues to expand its presence across residential, retail, and commercial markets, investing in technology, operations, and people to meet growing demand.
